Description

A SOUTHERN UTE
1891 CHROMOLITHOGRAPH
Printed by the Denver Lith. Co.
and published by “The Great Divide” Publishing Co. Denver
Stanley Wood as editor of ‘Six Aquarelles from The Rockies’ engaged William Henry Jackson to photograph the scenes for this publication and the artist, Mons. Gaspard Latoir, then produced this striking image.
Stanley Wood stated:
‘The illustrations in this work are absolutely correct, being based on original studies by Mons. Gaspard Latoix, … and photographs by Mr. W. H. Jackson.’
John Hauser was later to copy Gaspard Latoix painting of Indians (see Huntington Library and Art Gallery)
This signed portrait by Gasapard Latoix is very scarce. The publication ‘Six Aquarelles from The Rockies” was produced in flimsy soft covers, which over the last 120 years,
have all but disappeared
. The chromolithograph has some visible time stains.
11.00” x 7.50” inches
Supplied in a 14”x11” double mat.
