In good used condition an original WW1 German M1895 Tornister Backpack also called Pony pack, maker marked and dated on the top leather edge, the maker is hard to read possibly Weider or Neider and dated 1918. The 2 shoulder straps marked 69 Sopalia a letter not sure what it is then Leiwitz, a 4 digit number and then stamped which appears to be 18 J.I, on the inside one leather tab stamped 31 1/2 in ink. There were 3 sizes manufactured 29.5.cm/ 11.6 in, a 31.5 cm / 12.4 in and a 33.5 cm / 13.1 in. This one is 33.5 cm / 13.1 high, other dimensions are bottom width approximately 12 1/4” and top approximately 12”, the side width is top approximately 1 1/2” wide and tapers to a bottom width of approximately 2 1/2”. The inside has rigid interior wood frame that is covered with a fabric. It appears that all straps and leather and metal fittings are present and also the auxiliary carry strap hooks are there. Overall the backpack is in great condition for a 103 yrs old, it does have a small hole on one edge as shown in pictures and there is an amount of fur missing.
